Hello there,

My budgie has been diagnosed with crop infection - a yeast infection.
Would you be able to give me an idea of what kind of foods are good at this time. I have been told by the vet that sugary stuff like fruit ain't good for him as yeast feeds off the fruit.
He is currently refusing to eat his vegetables - cos of his condition and is losing weight. He does like his millet more than anything right now.

The vet said I can give him millet if thats what he wants to eat, but it can cause crop infection irritation in some birds with yeast infection. I am wondering, apart from his millet, seed and cuttle bone what can I give him to eat? His treatment is for 10 days.

thanks
sam

Have you spoken with your Avian Vet with regard to what foods he believes would be best for your budgie at this time?

Do you give your budgie pellets in addition to a good seed mix?
Harrison's high potency mash would be a good option to help maintain his weight if he is suffering from AGY.
You may offer him egg food with hard boiled egg, flax seed, and cooked quinoa as well.

Thyme is a good herb to feed budgies suffering from yeast infections. An herb salad with Thyme, basil, rosemary, and anise would be a nice addition to his diet.

Hello, excelent thank you for that will try those

My vet said keep offering him his veggies which include spinach, rocket, celery and flat leaf parsley. Ive stopped the carrots though during his treatment
For now I am just giving him his millet and seed - and yet to try harrisons

Do you think its OK to stop his veggies for a few days to help his digestion?
thx

If your Avian Vet told you to keep offering your budgie his vegetables during the time he is being treated with the anti-biotic, then that is what I would recommend you do.

When you speak with the vet about what he thinks may be the cause of your budgie's limited flight ability and problems with balance, you can ask again about the best foods to feed him while he is taking his antibiotics and fighting a possible crop-infection. :)
