A friend of mine bred one about 5 years ago. It was definitely a blackface and it appeared on a tv show over here.

i dont think its that attractive to be honest..but id like to see one up close

The 'coalface' bird is most likely a heavily pigmented bird, little more. Show birds with dark melanin often develop what is called 'head flecking', which seems to be more present in recessive pieds than most for some reason.

I wouldnt be surprised if that coalface was a normal split recessive, or from an aviary that breeds recessive pieds. I've seen heavily flecked birds that look like they have black caps, i think nev has one.
