I wouldn't thought so cos that's what you call line breeding. You might get promblems with the chicks, I wouldn't advise it. Some breeders do it with the canaries but we don't. We put mother and father together every year.

There will be more members here you will give you more advice on that.

Breeding related anythings is a big no no. Its like humans. If a brother and sister had a baby, it may have mental disorders or be deformed.

It goes with any other animal. It is called also interbreeding. It should never happen. I know of people who bred budgies that were realated together and bad things happened.
I know this is bad but a third of my flcok is from my friend. She bred budgies at the bottom of her garden in an avairy. Just gave them food and water and left them. Chucked in 3 nest boxes. She started of with 2 pairs and ended up with 30 budgies. So as you could imagine they interbred.
Some of my females off her stopped breeding at the age of 3 and another had a tumor and died young.
She also had one,Unko who was missing a leg and an eye. He was just born without it

Would there be any chance in maybe you taking her female.. And her taking your female? So you both have an unrelated pair?

That is not line breeding - it is INBREEDING. And is the best way to double up on weak, crippling or fatal genes.

Breeding very close relations together can be very dangerous. It could produce chicks that are very weak and only live a short time or even worse it could produce chicks with all sorts of deformities. The most common problem with inbred birds is blindness.

Many show breeders line breed their birds to enhance a particular feature. This is done in a controlled way, the records of ancestors are usually studied first to ensure that faults are not "doubled up" and careful records are kept. Any birds that are below standard are culled (usually by euthanasia). No breeder with any sense of responsibility would breed birds together as closely related as brother & sister.

There is no reason for inbreeding pet budgies because there are plenty of unrelated mates available
