It's almost 2 weeks since our beloved male budgie jack left us and I'm missing him so badly and i noticed jill, the hen is not touching the veggies i offer her every morning. May it be tomatoes or kale and her fave carrot. I think she is still mourning but jack is the one taking initiatives to eat veggies and she rides along, I'm offering her finely chopped but she doesn't care. It seems she focuses more in zupreem natural pellets that i leave and taking note that she only gets 1 teaspoon of seeds. I even bought a measuring to control the seed intake. I try to spend more time to her and encouraging to go out of cage even for 15 mins but she only stays on top of the cage and not daring to explore. Even with my hectic schedule i try to let her out at least 2 times a day for fear that she remains cage bound and only to gain weight.

What triggered this behavior? Is it for the loss of jack? She seems pretty doing well as a single budgie and i don't think I'll be getting another anytime soon as i still can't move on.

I'm attaching a photo of her Bird Beak Parrot Feather Pet supply

Changes in the environment (In this case, the loss of her partner, Jack) can affect a budgie with regard to what they eat.
If Jill was used to Jack taking the lead with vegetables, then that is probably your explanation right there.
Don't give up though -- keep offering them to her on a daily basis.

She still eating a lot though on pellets, i don't know if she is overeating with it as it is inside the cage all the time. only on her veggies there is a drastic change. With seeds i measured 1 teaspoon and it is roughly around 3 grams in my measuring spoon.
I'm working to form a bit of bond with her even though the chances are slim because she is around 4 too. She's bit shaking when i go near and when she is outside the cage.

Grieving Jack

Jill sounds liks she is grieving her mate, you are doing everything right to help her adjust to being on her own.She will come round with time and love.Leave a radio on for company for her when you are not home, music or voices will help her to feel settled.I know how it feels to lose a beloved baby ,take care

I left my ipad opened with random music Playlists this morning and put it inside the cage. She got pretty large housing the madeira I so it's like having a home theater inside. She is pretty silent sometimes as it was Jack who was the most chatty
