Hi! Our four month old budgie, she has been throwing up seeds all day today and we do not know if she has something stuck in her stomach or throat or she is stressed but she has been throwing up seeds for the last several hours and has been having a neck motion of throwing up constantly. Her head feathers are slightly wet, and she is not herself (yesterday everything was normal). We do not have a vet in the area so your help would be extremely helpful!
Does anyone have any tips or solutions?

Many thanks!!!

A situation like this needs the attention of an avian vet, use this link and see if you can locate one in your country https://www.aav.org/search/custom.asp?id=1803 you can also look in your area for an exotic vet as they usually also treat birds. If she is constantly vomiting she may have an infection in her crop or GI tract and that needs to be treated by a vet, the infection will not go away on its own, birds are masters at hiding illness and by the time the symptoms show up the bird has probably been ill for days. What do her droppings look like, is she puffed up?

Thank you for your reply. Yes, she is puffed up and the droppings are transparent mixed with grains.
Will try to find a vet. Thank you for your help once again!

If there is not a vet in the area, look for one outside the area. I don’t mean to be rude, but when you get an animal you need to understand that they depend on you! And if you don’t have the means to take care of them, please don’t have them. It’s not fair. Your bird needs to see a doctor. When a bird is showing symptoms it means they are really sick and things will only get worse. Please find a vet ASAP.

Please make sure the vet tests for Avian Gastric Yeast, bacteria and fungal issues as well as parasites. The fact that she is puffed up is an indication she is feeling unwell and the grain in the droppings shows the GI tract is not working properly which could be due to a number of things. Keep her warm and do not encourage activity right now, she needs to reserve all her strength to fight whatever is making her ill.

Thank you very much for your advice. I will make sure the vet tests for what you’ve mentioned and will follow all your recommendations.

Make sure you also take along the papers at the bottom of the cage so the vet can see the quantity and the condition of the droppings. If you do not have paper at the cage bottom put some in, you can use paper towels.

When is your vet appointment?
Please be sure to update us in this thread on how your budgie (name?) is doing.
Best wishes!

We had an appointment with a vet today. The budgie is feeling much better and is the same as usual!! The vet didn’t find any problem and said it might have been a grain that was stuck in her stomach . Apparently Sonya (budgie’s name) has solved the problem herself when she was throwing up the food yesterday. The vet still recommended to keep her in a cage for a few days (I always give my birds freedom and they fly in the house) and he advised to make sure she doesn’t do much of activity these days. So we will follow all the recommendations he gave us. Thanks everyone for your help and such a big kindness!!!
