I have a large parrot cage that I would like to convert into a flight cage for my two budgies.

Problem is the bar spacing is 3/4" so I need to figure out a way to line the cage with wire. I'll probably use 1/2" mesh wire but how to attach it? Would it be safe to just wire it on as long as there are no sharp wire bits?

The seed skirt was lost at some point so I plan on using coroplast and zip ties to fashion a new one.

Hi Gail
I have been thinking of doing something similar, but my concern is that there will be 2 layers of wire and a budgie could easily get their foot caught between the mesh and the wires. I decided to put the idea aside at the moment but if someone comes up with a solution I would be most interested!

I agree with Donna.
I wouldn't want to risk the budgies being injured.

Additionally, please keep in mind that not all wire mesh is safe for budgies.
It's best to use stainless steel mesh if you do decide to go that route.

I would suggest you sell the parrot cage and put that money toward buying a flight cage for your budgies with appropriately spaced barring.

Best wishes!
