Mesh or Wire Must be Safe for Your Budgies

Budgies are extremely susceptible to Heavy Metal Poisoning

If you are using galvanized wire on the budgie's cage, it is important to clean it carefully.

If you wish to use stainless steel mesh, there are different options:

1-2-inch-stainless-hex-mesh-20-gauge

2-x-1-2-mesh

If you choose to use galvanized metal, you'll need to scrub it completely with white vinegar and a stiff brush.
As per the information in the following link, doing so will remove any loose particles of zinc although it does not completely eliminate it.

Lead and Zinc Toxicosis

Please note: we have members on the forum who have cleaned the galvanized metal used to build their cages and indicated they have not had problems.
