So I'm thinking about purchasing a new camera! However I'm a bit of a novice at photography so I was wondering what brand would be the best to go for and what else I should be looking for in a camera.

I would love to be able to take decent macro shots of my budgie baby when he arrives. My current camera is a small digital one that takes quite grainy pictures. I have to admit the graininess of the photos it takes bothers me quite a bit.

I'm going to move your thread down to the Camera Club Forum -- you might want to look through some of the old threads in that section as well.

If you want a really EASY camera that takes decent pictures you can get something along the lines of a Canon PowerShot ELPH100 HS (or whatever the new version of that it.)

I received one as a gift a few years ago and still end up going to it more frequently than I do my Nikon D3200 simply because it's small, easy to use and easy to carry. I can also hold it in one hand inside the bird's cage if I so desire.

I have a Nikon D1500 with a macro lens (not autofocused) that is super great for portrait and macro work. I love this camera because it's the best of both worlds - if I'm just snapping tourist shots, I let it do the automatic thing. If I see something that I want a really great shot of, I can manually adjust the settings. And the flippable viewscreen means that I can get amazing shots, even when holding the camera high above my head (like from the Eiffel Tower!).

The price also makes it a great buy for a beginner DSLR.

Hi Krystal,

I have a Pentax k-50 (because it's supposed to take a good knock!) and similar to Bethany's above, can be used manually or automatic. I haven't got a macro lens but am considering this for my next lens purchase. Brands seem to be more personnal preference than anything so I would say to go down to your local camera shop and handle a few, see what you find easier or more comfortable to use.

I am a Canon person
So I can only give you advice about that..

Well, I use Canon 7D Mark II and Canon 7D.

If I use my camera to take photos of the budgies I use my Canon 16-35mm f 2,8 lens. Its sharp and very good "Macro" lens.

These cameras are more for wildlife and sport.

If you are gonna buy a new camera then I would say, Canon 550D or 600D is a good choice.
With canon 50mm f/1.8 lens or a good macro lens. Canon 100mm f/2,8. etc..
