Still can't quite determine if my Baby Boy is a boy or girl. I realized the other day that he/she has the dried corn colour beak that I was under the impression means recessive pied, Squeeky, my avatar has that colour beak. But, Baby Boy also has the clear patch on the back of his/her head. It has to be a yellow face of some kind, the face yellow is a brighter deeper yellow that the body, except that now some of the new feathers are coming in more like the yellow of his/her face.

In a prior thread, Atvchick expressed the opinion he is a recessive pied male, and others think he is a she.

So is it possible to have traits of recessive pied and dominant pied?

In any case, it is a very pretty bird.

The flight feathers seem to be coming in clear and there is a partial band of blue up at the neck and then there is blue at the bottom. I didn't know that the thumbprint applied to both pied varieties. I guess with the recessives it won't always be evident that the thumbprint is there.

There are pictures in this thread, not just the thumbnails in the first post but also further down.

Thank you, :) Am I correct in thinking that the orange beak is a recessive pied characteristic? Aren't genetics wonderfully confusing?
