Hey guys, so my budgies have feather mites. I have this product called "SMITE powder", which claims to be organic, harmless to animals, contains no chemicals and can be mixed with water. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever used this on their budgies as liquid? Is this product safe? I'm thinking of adding some powder to their bath so they can wash themselves in it (my budgies aren't tamed, I can't just grab them and apply it myself). However, I don't know if it's safe for them to consume, as they always drink from their bath as well. Would appreciate feedback!

Hi,

I've never heard of Smite powder.

The most effective treatment for mites is an anti-parasite spot on, such as this one
The good thing about it is it will treat all type of mites. For example, scaly mites take a while to appear on your budgie, but it could still have them.

If you don't feel confident holding your budgie and administering the treatment, you should go to the vets and ask them about treatment for feather mites.
It would also be useful to get them to show you hold to hold your budgie safely in case you ever need too.

My birds aren't tame and I have had to do mite treatment on a couple of my birds, I also have to trim one of my birds beaks monthly. And there's always the chance that you might need to assist a budgie if it should become sick or need help, so finding out how to hold them safely and confidently is always a good idea.
