Is it normal for a budgie to change colour? i took in 4 baby budgies about 8 weeks ago, 1 dominant pied (grey, yellow, white) 1 recesive pied (sky blue, white) 1 albino and 1 had a yellow face, violet body, and spangle wings, but now he is moulting his violet is changing to dark blue and green patches, is that normal? does anyone know what mutation he is? sorry i cant post pics at the moment,

I know that there's a member on here who's budgie I believe went from being a yellow face to having a just a white face after molting. So I would say yes they can change color with molting. But I would love to see pics when you can.:D

yes they get their adult plumage when they molt

from the sounds of it the one you thought was violet is actually a yellow face type 2 cobalt blue - The yellow of a type 2 "bleeds" into the body color changing blue to a sea foam green color

pics of course would help determine the exact mutations

As ATV said a lot of yellow face budgies change when they moult and end up a greenish colour. Singe factor type 2 yellow face and golden face change the most
