Cold weather/heaters

Hi, I have six parakeets and I've had them for over a year. I am just paranoid about the temperatures they are comfortable with. It's getting chilly where I live ranging from a low 40°f to a high of 70°f. I have bird heaters in all of their cages but I'm not sure when I should start turning them on and off. I have them on right now during the night (They are pretty much out of their cages all day long) but is there anyone who could give me an idea of what temperature their heaters should be turned on and off? Thank you in advance!😊

Hi,

I don’t know much and I am certain there are members very educated on the correct temperature for budgies but I do know avoid any cage positions that may in the path of a cool draft. I currently have my home temperature on 30 degrees Celsius throughout the night and 28 degrees Celsius through the day. I have a heat pad on his play table that is set at 24-26 degrees Celsius. If these temperatures are to hot throughout the day I turn it down. Weather in Australian winter/autumn/spring are very unpredictable; it’s either very hot or very cold. When it’s warm we take him outside to sit in the sun for a couple of minutes then sit in the shade. Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck!

Hello sorry for the late reply. I have had them all for over a year. I have two Bourke parakeets and four budgies. I have three male budgies, one female budgie, one male Bourke and I can't be certain about my other one but I believe she is a female based on some previous research I had done. They are all paired in three separate cages. Each cage has its own heater. The two Bourke's are together in a fairly big cage (they are bigger with longer tails than budgies) the budgies which are in pairs are in two smaller cages (not too small), I can't entirely remember the dimensions. They are out pretty much all day everyday with access to their cages if they want inside, there are food and water provided on the outside of their cages during the day when they're out. They are all flighted so they fly around as much as they please. Them being out all day is why I don't really worry too much about their cage sizes since they're big enough to move around in whilst inside but they really only sleep in them since they're out all the time. They have a bed time though, a routine I've held with them since I got them.

Thank you! 😊
I have taken many measures to keep them from breeding and haven't had an issue with that so far.
