Hi everyone, I am hoping that someone out there can help me. I have just got into budgies in the last 18 months and have just had my 1st 2 clutches hatch, they are now 3 & 4 weeks.

I paired up what I think is a normal cobalt blue male with a yellow female that I believe is dominant pied, split for blue and may also have ino genes as one of her cheek patches has white in it.

I understand from all my research that the yellow based budgie is more dominant than the white therefore I was expecting yellow based budgies. What a surprise I got when she ended up with 2 white based babies.

I was wondering what other people think her mutation might be, am I right. Also is anyone could also tell me what the babies are.

Picture 1 & 2 is Mum (Honey)
Picture 3 is Dad (Scooby)
Picture 4 is baby 1 (had red eyes which have now darkened, not sure what mutation is)
Picutre 5 is baby 2 (has red eyes and looks all white so will possibly be albino)

Let me know if pictures don’t give enough of an idea.

Mum is a Light Green Dominant Pied, Dad is a Cobalt Blue Normal split Opaline, Cinnamon and INO.

The first baby is Cobalt Blue Dominant Pied Cinnamon, and the second is Albino, and they should both be females. :)

Honey is an olive green double factor dominant pied.

Scooby is a cobalt blue normal (his offsprings prove that he is split for ino, opaline and cinnamon).

Baby 1 is a cinnamon opaline mauve blue dominant pied hen. (cinnamon babies have red plum eyes from day1 to day5. From day6 onwards the eyes darkened).

Baby 2 is an ino hen masking dominant pied, cinnamon and opaline (either 1,2 or all). Dark factor could be 1 or 2.

Anyway, since you're colony breeding, Honey could have mated with Scooby or has multiple mates in an aviary setting. Hence Scooby's split mutations are assumptions.

Thanks for your replies. Looks like I need to do a little more research into the different mutations although I seem to have got some right. Yesterday avo when having a closer look at Scooby I did notice the opaline in him so I am slowing getting an understanding.

I am pretty sure that Scooby is the dad as I have never seen Honey with anyone else. Next breeding season I will be using separate breeding boxes but I haven't this time as I am still getting them made and set up.
