Hi everyone.
I'm facing a predicament as my little 8 week old budgie should be off formula by now and onto seeds completely. However, this is not the case. I just finished the formula I've been using and I am hesitant to get another because 1: They're insanely expensive and don't sell them in smaller packs and 2: I feel it's time he went on to proper budgie food permanently. Of course if it's absolutely necessary I will definitely get him another pack.
My problem is that he still hasn't mastered the art of cracking open budgie seeds. He cracks a few open here and there but mostly he just picks one up and drops it to pick another one up repeatedly.
I was wondering if egg food is a better alternative to the hard budgie seeds he currently has? Perhaps a combination of egg food and seeds in his bowl?
Any advice would be accepted!

Egg

If this is the youngest chick to be weaned it may need more time and may be smaller than the others. Use egg food mixed with seeds and try some nutriberries which are made with pellets and preshelled seeds. millet spray is good as well. Some times a budgie is just lazy and resists the fact that for the rest of its life it will need to eat seed almost constantly instead of dad feeding it. Then one day it will just get the idea and is fine going about eating . the beak can be a little soft so millets are easy as are oat groats and canary seed. Watch for weight loss and be patient.
