Hello! I just bought two beautiful little buddies for the first time ever yesterday afternoon. I noticed that my white budgie keeps the feathers on its face fluffed and it squints and closes its eyes a lot. My other budgie is very smooth and alert. Just wondering if it seems or looks sick?

Thank you so much!

It's hard to say if your budgie is sick or not- being fluffed up for short periods of time can also indicate comfort. If it's always fluffed up and not very active that can be a sign that it is sick. It's a good idea to take new birds to the vet anyway just to make sure everything is fine with them.

Good advice above from Katherine. It’s hard to say from the pic. It’s always advised to bring new birds to the vet (an avian vet) for a new pet check up just to make sure all is well. When birds are ill, they mask their symptoms until they are so sick that they can no longer hide it. By then it might be too late. This is their survival instinct as a prey animal.

If you need help finding an avian vet in your area, let us know. If you’d rather not disclose the area you live in, shoot a private message to either myself or StarlingWings, and we’d be happy to help you locate one.

If you haven’t done so already, we ask that you read through the Stickies and Articles provided on this forum. There is a ton of helpful and important information to get you started with budgies. You’ll also find answers to more common questions.

Welcome, and enjoy!
