Fish tank snail

So I have a tropical fish tank, it has mollies and 2 catfish..

Yesterday I went to feed them and noticed something in the corner.. it was a little (tiny) brown snail! I have NO idea where he came from? and he was sitting just out of the water? I had to go out but today when I came home he has moved and I can no longer see him..

I know nothing about snails, or what type he might be? or what do they need to survive..

also my tank has a cover/lid but there is a cut out where the filter sits over top of the tank.. so he could possibly escape :/

I work in a pet store and recently noticed that there are also similar brown snails in our barramundis tank at work, I asked where they had came from and my manager thought that maybe when we got new fish they were eggs (do snails come from eggs) haha..

but I haven't brought new fish in ages! the last thing I added to the tank was a live plant but it wasn't even from my work..

The snail most likely hitched a ride on your plant. I would remove it if you don't want to be overrun by snails.
They are notorious plant hitchhikers.....what type is he ?

Is he round....like a smaller version of the big colorful mystery snails...or is he more long and small at one end and large at the other like a funnel ? The long funnel shaped ones are like parrotletsrock said....I have two tanks right now myself that are overrun with them....the smaller round body ones I have never had multiply like that....

yes his round! and I still have not spotted him again... but I have lots of plants and things he could be hidding under

Cool...I think you will be fine....let the little hitchhiker stay....free bonus....:D
Sounds like a pond snail... Very invasive... If your lucky I guess it could be a baby mystery snail, but I doubt it... More than likely a pond snail.

hmm :/ I guess I will worry about that if it grows or if I even spot it again! I've still only seen it once!
Happy snails are a good indicator of terrific water quality! Personally I love snails and have had a ramshorn and an apple snail. I actually bought them. Loved them both......
