Aww, congrats Rick!! :D There is no doubt that your lovebird is still a little chick I'd say he/she is about 2 months old, I can see not only from the black beak, but also from the baby eyes and the darkish feet that the little one is very young! The feet as well as the beak will progressively get lighter in colour (the darkish feet will get a light greyish colour much like the budgie's feet).

Khaleesi, the whole lovebird flock and I officially welcome you to lovebird ownership, I'm sure this little one will enrich your life so much and give you a lot of joy and companionship as well. Just wait till he/she starts getting soaking wet from bathing, they absolutely love baths!!;)

I hope everything goes well at the vet's! From the pictures the little one seems to be healthy and in pretty good shape. :)

I'm glad the vet appointment went well! :) Will also look forward for the gender reveal. I know that the eye ring species of lovebirds are a bit different from the peach face variety, but from what I have noticed with my lovebird flock is that the females (my proven ones) all have big and rounded eyes while the proven males have a more almond shaped and kind of smallish eyes (the whites around the eyes also count). Females also tend to be much bigger in size than males.

If I were to take a guess, I'd say your little one is a girl, but who am I to be accurate, I have been wrong twice with my own birds! :p

Haha, lovebirds rule!! :D I love their way of thinking and they really are very intelligent birdies. I have seen mine many times using their toys as utensils to help them eat their meals. They take a big sunflower seed out of the food container and then they go to their favourite perch near a toy, they use that toy as a real plate to put the seed or other type of food (whether a piece of veggie or chunk of fruit) on, de-husk and eat everything. None of the budgies have ever thought of using the toys like that.
They also like to make their own soup on occasion, by placing bits of veggies on their water, more cleaning up for us but a lot of fun for them, apparently! ;)

Indeed, from all the information I've got (including an actual book on lovebirds I bought right after getting my first lovie) as well as my actual experience with my lovebird flock (6 lovies), I can say that female lovebirds are in fact bigger in size than the males.
And this goes for all the 3 main species (Fischer's, Peach faced, and black masked). In the Peach face variety, the birds of both genders are even bigger in size than their eyering species "cousins", the Fischer's and Black masked lovebirds.
