Hi experts! I have been reading about mutations, Cutelilbudies webpage is awesome! But of course I still have questions. Will a normal green ever have blue tinged feathers around their vent if they don't have a violet factor? My Alex is a normal dark green but he has blue feathers around his/her vent so I am wondering if he could be dark because he has a violet factor. Someday if I ever decide to breed I could have so really beautiful violet budgies if he/she has violet too!

Before their first molt a green baby that is split for blue will often have a blue tint around the vent/legs. If this tint stays after the first molt it usually indicates the budgie is carrying a violet factor :)

In photos with a flash the other option would be a sf yellowface II or Sf goldenface after their first molt... they can also look almost like a green bird tha ha a blue tinge around the vent/ feet but it is usually only noticeable with the right lighting.

Thanks Lindsey! You are awesome! They are all at various stages of their first molt so time will tell. Why is it so important to know their colors even if I don't know if I will ever breed them? I guess having violet seems special somehow, especially "hidden" violet in there.
