hello flock

183 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  StarlingWings
I have five budgies, they are all new to me and to each other. We are as a flock only a month old. They came from different places and have different issues. Finding avian vets is like finding a needle in a hay stack and then finding a competent one is like turning lead in to gold.

Dreamy my albino is sick with some kind of respiratory infection. He was treated with doxy before he came to me. I tried to take him to ER but let's say 250.00 later no diagnosis, and still something wrong.....so frustrating. the vet (TUFTS ER IN MA) was such a waste of time and energy and money not to mention i had to drive 2 hours.

ok so why is one bird sick and the others ok? what is a non contagious lung problem? or are the other birds hiding the symptoms to soon to tell. supplementing with morning blend sick bird, and Pau D'Arco

It cant hurt to treat them all fro parasites so that's next...i figure nutrition and immunity is my best defense for now....
I am reaching out to the flock for help though what should i do next are there any products (no sugar and color addatives) ? i can get the doxy again but i dont think thats the problem and there are no vets in my area that can help. also i want to remove the bands .....any advice?

**** I miss the old days when my grandparents had remedies for all our farm animals....

there must be an experienced bird person who can rec what works for them....these diseases are so common after all these years we are still in dark with no resources but vet bills and mysteries.......

jeeesh

chk chk shreek clack clack rrrr chirrrrrp....chirp

(i am non wing clipper and they fly around my room, I have an air filter and lots of perches i made from hoola hoops and jute to hemp wrapped playgrounds and toys ALL BIRD SAFE like baby proofed...... and ya a great vacuum cleaner lol)

You should not be treating for parasites just assuming it is needed, where are you in relation to Boston, MA, there are quite a number of avian vets within a 50 miles radius of Boston. Do a search using this link https://www.aav.org/search/custom.asp?id=1803 by opening up the radius to more than 5 miles and entering your city and state. Do not attempt to remove leg bands on your own, you could break their leg or cause other damage.

I cannot find any data on why I shouldn't treat them for parasites every thing read says only good things can come of it....and it helps with immunity.....from what i read its more likely they have parasites than not...humans too for that matter statistically you prob have parasites.

anyways not trying to be rude or argumentative, I am a knowledge seeker maybe you have knowledge you can share with me please?

thank you
btw that big trop to the er was it...
I already spent my vet money

gonna have to look for ways to monetize
I wasn't expecting a flock...or sick....i rescued them one of them cant fly i dont see any wing growth....i think it must have a disability...

i need a bird vet/ just a bird vet someone who specializes in birds...

There is a vet in Hopkinton NH. Its strait up Rt 89. If you're near routes 91 or 93, you can get there fairly quickly since most of the drive is highway.

thank you , thank you, thank you!!!
i cannot afford to go to another vet and have a failed attempt at getting these birds help...i really appreciate the referral to a bird vet ( can you imagine a non bird vet removing the bands? i cant, average vets don't know what they are doing with birds really ). I am in Northampton ma so Boston is out of the question. You are right if i take the whole flock together in the car before it gets to hot...i will get a credit card to fund this excursion. I will map it maybe its not to far....

To anyone else who needs birds supplies....the best place I found is a place called The Pet Stop in Nashua NH they have medications and such a huge selection of things- I dont buy my food from them though. Instead, I feed Dr. Harvey's seed. I also give them fruits and veggies. vitamins, calcium, and soon iodine.
I also want to get them some aloe. I love them so much already. I love waking up to them singing.

Thanks for your help...
