Hi
I have searched the internet for answers to questions I have on breeding but can not find anything. I am clueless so would greatly appreciate if any one can help please and tia.

Is it normal for a budgie to roll her eggs around like marbles in the nest box , only some of them, she sounds like shes playing football inside? She has 5 lined up at the back of the nest box and one lined up at the opening. She pushed one out yesterday.

If she was incubating the eggs would she still on them all day? At the moment she is sitting on them all morning and comes out for most of the afternoon and evening but quickly hops back in the nestbox if some one walks by.

Thank you:yellow:

Hi! :welcome: to Talk Budgies

It would be helpful to have more background information from you.

How long have your had budgies?
Is this your first time in breeding them?
How old is the hen?
Is it the first time she has been bred?

From what little information you've provided, it does not sound as if this hen is ready to incubate the clutch and bring the eggs to term since she's rolling the eggs about and pushing them out of the nest box.

How is the male behaving during all of this?

Has Tia had a clutch before?
How old is she?

She seems like she isn't ready to be breeding and if she is over the age of a year, I'm wondering if she just isn't the right budgie to be breeding with given what she's doing with the eggs.

Hi thanks so much for the help.

I have kept budgies as pets no intention of breeding for a long time I absolutely love them.
I now have five in total our original birds were rescues so I was never sure how old they were a male and female and one sadly died last month. We also have two young birds they are little party animals, love to play great fun you could look at them all day.
The budgies with the eggs I believe to be 3years old mum and dad are fantastic together, dad really takes care of the mum, and mum to dad feeding pruning each other ect. Dad is even in and out of the nestbox with her, no aggressive behavior towards each other or the eggs.
We took them in as their previous owner was getting rid and wanted to give them a forever home so mum arrived to us in a box with dad ,and a smaller shoe/ ment to be nesting box with her eggs inside. I havent removed of touched any of the eggs because I feel shes been moved round enough and I was terrified she wouldn't go back to her eggs so I managed to secure the little box with the eggs inside to the side of the cage to try not to stress the parents any more than they already had been. They have been hopping in and out since. When I agreed to adopting this pair I really didnt think there would be eggs with them.I knew nothing about breeding pairs untill the weekend and I spent most of the weekend trying to educate myself on it.
Her eggs are in a straight line at the back of the box lined up more than gathered together. Her and dad pop in and out most the day and she will sit on the eggs most the morning but comes out around midday eats some dad appears to be feeding her too. They do not go back in to the nest in the evening they sit outside. She pushed one egg out yesterday and today I could see her rolling another towards the opening in the box.The nestbox or shoe box is far from ideal but iam afraid to go near her eggs and disturb her as I feel this may have already been the case with there previous owners I am just trying to figure out the best things I can do for them at the moment.
I have started reading through the stickys this evening some great advise in there and iam still reading.I will also add some photos in the morning of the mum and dad.
Thank you very much for takeing the time to wb to my questions I very much appreciate it.

Are the two budgies with the eggs in an individual breeding cage away from the other adult birds?

It really doesn't sound as though any of the eggs are going to be fertile as they would need to be incubated more or less continually from the time the third egg is laid.

Do you know how long the eggs have been with the birds?
Can you find out from the person from whom you got them?

If it has been more than a couple of weeks since the last egg was laid, then I'd say it would be best to remove the nest box, rearrange the cage and begin working to bring the two birds out of condition.

Hi yes I have them seperated in a different cage from the other budgies as they are new to our home to make sure they are healthy and because she came with her eggs. But the cages are are next to each other. I asked about the eggs when we discovered them and was told maby 3_5 days they seemed unsure.

So how long exactly have the budgies been with you and when do you estimate the last egg would have been laid?

The clearer the details you provide, the better able we will be to offer you advice.
