Hi, I am breeding two new pairs and I would love to know what colours/varieties I could get from them (I'm not even entirely sure what you would call a couple of the parents).
I apologize for the photo quality, the camera itself isn't great, and the budgies are aviary birds so they are pretty hard to get close to.

The first pair is this boy who we bred ourselves, named Bran (don't ask me why I have no idea) he's the oldest bird we have now, his father was a light green spangle and his mother was a pale blue with just normal patterning, we also had her sister and she was the same colour but a cinnamon).

He is paired with this pretty girl, called Narna, she is the flightiest of the lot which is why her eyes are all panicky in the photos. I would love to know what you would call her colour/variety. I have no idea what her parents were as we got her off a friend.

The second pair is my favorite boy who we call Mango, we also bred him. His father was a similar pied pattern and body type as Mango, but he was a sky blue and white. Mango's mother was Bran's sister, who was the same colour as Bran, if a shade lighter.

His mate is Mintie. Again, I have no clue what her parents look like, she came from the same place as Narna.

Would love some ideas from you guys on what I might end up with!

Thanks for your welcome and help. :)

Just realized I should probably of put this in the thread made for talking about colours and mutations! Not sure how to move a post though...

Also, as one can probably see in the photos, it appears that Mintie isn't in breeding condition judging by her cere. How long will it take for her to come back in? Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?

I moved this to the mutations section of the forum for you :)

Increasing daylight hours and high protein foods will encourage your pair to come into breeding condition ;)

Bran looks like a normal cobalt blue yellow face type 2.
Does Narna have red eyes? If so she is a albino yellow face type 2. If not she is a double factor spangle yellow face type 2.
Mango is a dark green recessive pied.
And Mintie is a light green opaline :)

Hi, thanks a lot, that's very helpful!
I just went out and double checked Narna's eyes and they aren't red. So she's the second one. Does that mean she might have spangle chicks? My first budgie was a spangle called Pippin (Bran's father) so it would be really nice to get some spangles!

Can't do much about the daylight hours myself, but since it is moving into summer here, I think nature will take care of that for me! I have started putting in some of that condition/rearing food for them they love it! Also read somewhere that hard boiled eggs are good?

Yep If she is a double factor spangle all of her chicks will be spangles no matter who she is paired with :) If she was paired with another spangle you would get half spangle and half double factor spangle chicks like she is.

I give my birds egg food when I am getting them in condition, they love it! Here is what I put in mine let me know if you have any questions about it :) http://talkbudgies.com/showthread.php?t=69848

Oh okay, that is great! I love the spangle colour! :)

I read your post on food, but I am pretty sure I can't get the pellets, I live in a small town and from what I have seen there aren't any pellets for sale here. My little flock are currently getting a budgie seed mix from the pet shop, egg food (just started this) and I have wild seed grasses, chickweed and dandelion from my garden, apples, silver-beet, seed bells and millet sprays in rotation daily (for example today they got apples and millet sprays). They also have a mineral block and cuttlefish in there.
Does this sound okay, or should I add something/take something away?

That sounds like a very good diet! Pellets arent essential if the rest of their diet is complete :) I like to give mine some for more variety and a little something extra though since they cant pick and choose when they eat pellets :)

The more fruits and veggies you can get them to eat the better! That would be my only suggestion. If they are on a good seed mix, with lots of veggies and egg food you are on the right track ;)

Just make sure they are eating everything before you actually let them breed, since it can take months for some birds to eat their egg food and veggies like they need to for raising healthy babies :)

Alright, today I have tried some new fruit and veg so fingers crossed they will like them. Both males are already in breeding condition, and they are very keen on the egg food! Females always hang back with new stuff, so hopefully they will soon get used to it, seeing as neither of them are in breeding condition judging by their ceres (although Narna is going in and out of the nesting boxes anyway).

Also thinking of starting one of those breeding journals once I have made ten posts, its a good way to keep track of whats going on.
