Hi Everyone,

We recently made the great decision to adopt a baby budgie and can't for the life of us determine its gender.

He/She is around 7 weeks old and not very vocal.

Would be grateful if someone can help 馃檹馃槍:lovie 1:

Hi there and :welcome: to the forums!

You have a beautiful baby boy! He's precious - what's his name?

You've come to a great place to learn even more about the best of budgie care practices. Be sure to read through the forum's many budgie articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on everything. If you have any questions after doing so, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help!

Also, I wanted to just say briefly that you should take out all toys with fuzzy fabric or rope on them - in fact, chewing on those can lead to crop impaction from accidental swallowing of the fibers. Additionally, when you get a chance, it would be good to have perches of different diameters in order to stretch out his feet and prevent bumblefoot

Here's a few stickies to get you started!

I hope to see you and your cute boy around the forums! :sky blue:

Hi Starling Wings,

Thank you for your reply and note on the fabric fuzzy toy I will remove that from his cage.

His name is Mavish (meaning blue in Turkish) and is slowly getting used to us he sometimes will get on my finger and other times just run around his cage I am trying to get him hand trained but I am finding it hard as he doesn't really like millet.

Will be posting more soon.

Take care.

Your baby boy is adorable!

You are going to want to get a bigger cage for him though. The cage he's in looks very small and the bigger the cage he has, the better!

At the minimum, for one budgie I always recommend a cage at least 30" long x 18" wide by 18" tall.
