I am not sure wether or not to use dawn to clean my budgies food dishes. I just got my budgies yesterday and i have been doing a lot of research on how to properly take care of them. Ive read online that it is ok to use dawn but i would like to be sure. You guys are budgie owner so i would feel much better if i heard it from other parakeet owners. I also heard that to clean the cage you can make a natural cage cleanser from lemon juice, hot water, and baking soda, again i would like to know if anyone else has seen this and maybe used this method because i am not sure. Thx if you reply it is greatly appreciated.:budgie:

Hi Jonathan and :welcome: to Talk Budgies!

Yes, Dawn dishwashing liquid is safe to use to clean your budgie's dishes. Be sure you rinse them thoroughly with boiling water afterward.
Alternately you can clean the dishes with plain white vinegar. White vinegar is great for cleaning your cage, perches, toys, etc. You can use it full strength and either rinse afterward or not - your choice. The vinegar is a natural cleaner, quick and easy and will not harm your budgies. :)

Yes, it is safe. I don't know which is Dawn, we have different kinds of dishwashing liquids here but I haven't got any problems all these years.. :)
And yes, we would like to see some pics soon! :)

Definitely, we use Ajax because it's a little cheaper than Dawn, but it works just the same. We rinse with water as hot as we can stand on our hands until the water runs clear and free of bubbles, and do this for about a minute after the water runs clear.

Hope this helps, and we of course would love to see a picture of your little baby when you get the chance!!!
