:budgie: Kitty is my new budgie, and :budge: Wilbur's new buddy! She has lived in a teeny weeny pet shop cage for two years, and is pretty baffled by all the toys, perches, people and even just the sun that comes through the window. I expect her to take a while to settle in, and become more active, but its been about 2 weeks and still all she really does is eat and drink, and sit on the perch. Today, her food had ran out when I wasn't home, so she must have been eager to look for food, as she came right out the cage on her own! Her and Wilbur nibbled some seeds, and I got pretty close to her, but not enough for her to sit on my finger and eat. Wilbur also seemed pretty jealous, is it normal for a budgie who lost his friend to dislike a new one? Right now they are both sat on the cage top. Getting her back in the cage may be a problem, as I can't catch her. Any tips on getting her to sit on my finger? And perhaps stop Wilbur from being so grumpy? Pics soon!

To get Kitty to step on your finger you can use a taming method :) What I did was first use a perch and some millet spray or treat that she likes. You put the perch in front of their stomach and push gently while saying "step" She might be scared of the stick at first but if you persist she will start stepping up. When she steps up let her have a little millet. Soon start inching your finger closer and closer to the perch and she will start stepping on to your finger while you say "step" and give her a little millet. Good Luck :D!

Update

Kitty :budgie: now sits on my hand if I offer food. She also has learned that she can come out the cage and go back in on her own! However she still doesn't want to sit on my hand if there is no food on it or she isn't hungry.

Sounds like a typical wild budgie :giggle:
