Just bought this beautiful budgie from a breeder and he said it she is a female. Reading all the info on this forum I am not so sure anymore. Could anyone please help ?

Hi and welcome to TB! I'm not really sure but I guess it's a female because the cere looks very light and powdery. The cere of a male bird would be more purplish and translucent/waxy-looking.

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your new budgie friend!

From that one photo I'm seeing a uniform light purplish cere with no hint of white, so I believe little Lemon is a boy.
Looking a him I'd say he is 3 months old.

Thank you for the answers. Will keep you updated and will see who is right. My other boy Crunchy doesn't seem to like Lemon. I hope they will become friends soon.

I agree with Aluz that even though the cere is very pale, it still has the noticable purple hue and slighly pearly sheen that may indicate young male :thumbsup:

You should have quarantined Lemon away from Crunchy for a minimum of 40 days to prevent the spread of any possible hidden illnesses he may have had. Even if the breeder is great and he seems healthy, budgies are very adept at hiding illnesses and thus he may be hiding something he could spread to Crunch. I would take a look at these threads regarding quarantine:

Also, you should follow certain procedures for slowly introducing two budgies when the time comes so they slowly get used to each other and have a greater chance of being friends.

Hi, Welcome to the forum ! Lemon sure is a cutie. If the photo (and my monitor) shows accurate color, it looks like the uniform pinkish lavender cere that is typical of young males.
