This is such a great toy idea! It’s so neat how budgies can have preferences for certain kinds of play, like Picasso loving rotating things. I’ve noticed lately that my girl Luxie loves “plucking” at things to see them swing around, and likes ”springy” things. She does this with all her hanging toys, her swing, and sometimes my circular knitting needles—usually when I’m trying to use them! (Note for the curious: she is far more interested in the [stainless steel] needles than the yarn, but I am always watching when this happens to make sure she doesn’t ingest fibers, which could lead to a crop impaction. She keeps me on my toes!)

Thank you for the kind words! Isn't it just wonderful that these little critters are so unique in their individual interests and personalities? You can learn a lot about a budgie by just watching them! Im very privileged to be a stay at home bird mom with no other responsibilities but looking after my feathery fluffs. Have you ever considered a timothy hay mat for your Luxie? (Like this one) I bet a bird who likes to pluck at things would go nuts for something like that. I personally get very frustrated with the lack of good budgie toys on the market, it's like everything is for larger birds with stronger beaks. 😅 I'm sure you have much more experience with these creatures than I do but I was also thinking flat wooden toothpicks in a paper cup or paper tube (birdie bagel tubes?) might also be fun for your little lady. I appreciate you taking the time to share with me, I love getting new ideas and inspirations from other folk!

Thank you for the link! I would love to see how Luxie likes something like that. I agree about it sometimes feeling like most bird toys are for bigger birds. This might be a financially dangerous suggestion, but have you poked around on Etsy at all? I got my girl a climbing net that’s got toys built into it that works for budgies, and while she doesn’t climb all over it every day she returns to it again and again (she loves to climb as high as she can go). There’s another toy that spins like a windmill specifically intended for budgies that I’ve been thinking about giving a try! (A few of these types from the shop have dowel rod perches that I would avoid, but several of them are free-standing or look like they clip to the side of the cage.)

Just finished another project. A nice A style swing with pacifier and spinning flowers! It took a couple hours to make the swing hangers, I did a square knot the whole way up!🪢 When I was younger, this was a popular friendship bracelet pattern. Bonus birds looking at me like I'm crazy for taking pictures of their house 😆

I'm going to be changing their set up after the holidays so I decided why not take pictures! That way if I ever want it this way again I can set it up just the same. Please excuse the mess, I haven't cleaned the cage this morning yet and the boys are mid breakfasting, haha. Complete with top, side and front pics! The look on Picasso's face in some of them is super cute and funny to me, like "mom, what the heck are you doing??" Always watching me, that one is. 😆

Just about done with this project but I wanted to share! I made a nice PVC pipe stand for the top of the birds cage. All I've got left to do is deck it out a little more and add some vet wrap on any bare pieces but it's totally usable in this form. I'd say it's about 75% complete :) BONUS: two cute volunteers

Looking good, Matisse's English Budgie features are really starting to show as he matures. :D
He's really turning into a looker! That's for certain. I love that he retained the pink legs, I think that's my favorite part of him. They're so big! Picasso is also really coming into his own too, I've noticed a blue sheen to his feathers and the top half of his flight feathers that's absolutely stunning, the bluest blue I've ever seen. 😍
