Would like to know the genes of these two birds, the below (almost identical looking) hen and **** bird?

They used to be part of my "attempt" at breeding a proper "black", called Anthracite bird...but now that I know more (with TB members' help)...I think I'm way off the mark with my earlier attempt...

...but maybe they have the "Slate" gene?...which I know is also (rare) unlikely!

Here's the Hen:

...and her mate:

Do take a guess...for the fun of it!

...or why not show the proper / true example of "slate' if you had such a bird!

Sorry, I don't know what they are in their mutations. But I wanted to say they are beautiful birds! In fact all your birds are beautiful!

Thanks for sharing!

By the look of the cheek patches the **** bird is a mauve.
I can't see the hen's cheek patches clearly enough to tell but she is not an anthracite.

A mauve will have violet cheek patches and a navy blue tail
A grey will have blue or grey cheek patches and a black tail
An anthracite will have black cheek patches and the body will be dark grey
Slates are rare and also hard to indentify

thx Nev,

I'll post a better picture of the hen...but given what you said, she having "blue" cheek patches...she may have grey added to the mauve blue bird....

...let's see then!
