Does anyone know much about Melanistic Spangles?
I came across an article about them on the internet and was wondering if maybe Amigo was one, I know I bring up his patch of normal feathers a lot, but I'm curious xD

I do not own any personally, but I too have read a lot about them :) As chicks they look like a normal, but as they molt they loose the normal markings replacing them with Spangle ones. Often only the main tail feathers have the traditional spangle markings as chicks :)

Spangle is actually a pied gene which removes the pigment from specific feathers or areas of each feather. Sometimes because of a "defect" so to speak in the mutation the pigment is not completely removed as would be expected, leaving some of the normal markings that would be present if the bird did not have the spangle gene effecting it. If your little guy has only a spot of normal colored feathers that remain the same, he does not sound like a melanistic spangle :)
