Just wanted to share a video of Merlin trilling and chirping to himself. :)
He has a very soft chirp, unlike any other budgies we've had, and he has quite a repetoire of sounds (I wish I could catch them all). But he loves that disco ball. Lately he's been making very interesting noises and I swear I've heard him try to make what sounds like "pretty bird" or "baby bird". He's very nice to listen to.
Also, recently he has loved eating (and just shredding) bellpepper and beans.
Play with disco ball, take a bite of bean/bellpepper, repeat. :giggle:

Edit for another one:

Aww, the little cutie is really talking and it does sound like he's saying "pretty birdie" towards the end of the first video! Merlin really has the aptitude for speech especially since he's your only bird, so you should repeat words often that he can mimick. He has such a pleasant and lovable personality.:)

I have loved watching him go from being a chicken to full of beans (literally, lol!). It's really neat to get to see their individual personalities develop. :) He makes me laugh every day with things he does. He'll step on my finger in his cage without millet and I'll flick his bell and he'll play with it with me.
I'm glad I'm not crazy! Pretty bird has been the phrase we've been repeating, I thought I maybe heard it at the end too. He also seemed to mimic Belle's call at one point. He is just such a little ham and we love him to pieces. :p

Kerry,

Merlin is such a cutie! I love the little wayward feather that was sticking up from his head! :giggle:
He does have a cute little voice and is going to be chattering at you in no time!

Skipper and Scooter both flew over to say "Hi" to Merlin on the computer screen when they heard him.

Believe it or not he has had feathers stuck like that on his head for a week at a time since he started molting :giggle:
As soon as one falls off the next day there's more just stuck there.
Thank you guys :)

Merlin is just adorable! I loved his videos and he does have such a warm, chattery voice :)

He's very fun to watch, thank you for sharing.
Does anyone else think it's interesting that every budgie has a unique voice?

Merlin is so cute with his little AlfAlfa sprouting feather!

Yes, it sounds like he is getting toward talking! If you play other budgies talking on Youtube, I'm sure he'll pick it up quickly.

I also just wanted to mention to please take care with his disco bell if he plays with it all the time. Sammy got heavy metals poisoning from eating the metal coating on one of those bells. :( If Merlin just plays with it occasionally, he should be fine! :D (I don't want to worry you!)

Their voices are so sweet. I love listening to budgies. :)

And yes Beth I've been doing a lot of reading about it, it gets you scared! :( I wish they'd just make them truly bird safe. I've been watching to see if I can find stainless steel bells to replace them. I've read a couple horror stories, it just ***** because they love them so much. I'll have to check a couple craft stores and see if I can come up with anything. For the most part he bats it with his head and pulls on the yellow plastic, but it's definitely something I've been wary of. :)
