What is on your 'must read' book list for budgie breeders?

Being an iPad user I looked up iBooks and found a couple of budgie breeding guides from the 1900's. Would these still be worth reading today?

Well here is my 'must read' wishlist:

BUDGERIGAR MATINGS AND COLOUR EXPECTATIONS ~ various
BUDGERIGARS IN COLOUR - THEIR CARE AND BREEDING ~ A. Rutgers and edited by Cyril Rogers
BUDGERIGAR HANDBOOK ~ Ernest H. Hart
THE CHALLENGE ~ Gerald Binks
THE BUDGERIGAH ~ Dr. Rob Marshall
THE COMPLETE BOOK OF BUDGERIGARS ~ John Scoble

Some of these books are really hard to find or really expensive, hence the term 'wishlist'

Here is my 'must read' list for prospective budgie breeders:
-All of TB's breeding articles and stickies
-ABS (or similar organization) website
-The Budgerigar By Dr. Rob Marshall

I also think prospective breeders should talk to or atleast have an email/phone conversation with a breeder or organization to hear about their breeding experiences if possible. :)

I don't think it would hurt to skim through those old breeding guides, as they may have some old remedies and such. They will most likely have some incorrect information since they are older books, but it still wouldn't hurt to have a look through them in my opinion. :)

Anything written by cutelilbirdies xD

The old books are still good. I bought one (can't remember what it's called or where it is atm!) and it was fascinating. Most things still applied, and it had a lot of home remedies for problems. So long as you cross check the information, there's nothing wrong with having them on hand for quick reference.

Thanks, I did wonder about the older books. They are relatively cheap on iBooks and I have found some older books (50's - 70's) to be quite interesting from a general point of view. You do certainly need to check facts though, I think one book I read mentioned something about asbestos being a good material for aviary's

I will have to add Dr. Ross Perry's book to it when it comes out too :)

These are the books I have currently ...

The Budgerigar ~ by Dr. Rob Marshall (exxie at $114 - but it's a BIG book, full of info)

Best in Show - Breeding and Exhibiting Budgerigars ~ by Gerald S. Binks (very interesting info!)

Budgerigars in Colour - Their Care and Breeding ~ by A. Rutgers, edited by Cyril Rogers (loving the colour plates in this one! :p)

The Complete Book of Budgerigars ~ by John Scoble

Budgerigars - BEST FRIEND or NATIONAL CHAMPION ~ by Judy Higgins & Betty Rea

Budgerigar - Understanding and Caring for your Pet ~ by Catherine Smith

When I've read through them a few times, hopefully I'll have absorbed *something*! :giggle:

Dr. Ross Perry's book is out ....he's aka "The Bird Whisperer"

It is called "Caring for Birds with Love and Gratitude" and is directly available from him on his website:

http://goldcoastbirdvet.weebly.com/books-e-books-cds-and-dvds-by-dr-ross-perry.html

It is $65 - but it has a wealth of information and I believe it is worth it.

He is putting out a Budgie specific book, which will be available in a week or two - in the middle of proof reading, I think he said.
