Hello! We brought our bird, Chandler, home a month ago from a bird store, and was told it was 3 months old. I’m already in love with the little bud and would love to know as much about the bird as possible; is anyone able to tell me what mutation it is? There was also great debate at the store as to whether this is a male or female and if anyone can clarify, that would be much appreciated. The cere has darkened since coming home, but I would love the expertise! (We can only refer to “the bird” so much…) 😉

Thank you for any insight! And many thanks to this site for information I’ve come across - we’re in the process of changing out the perches, getting a different cage cover, and introducing a greater variety of vegetables than I had with previous birds.

Hello and welcome to the forums,

Chandler is a beautiful little girl! She looks to be a mauve yellowface type II dilute budgie, and is around 6-8 months old, as far as I can tell.

It's great to have you here and I'm glad you've been looking through the forums. If you have any questions after reading through everything, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help :)

Hope to see you around! (And Chandler too ;))

I can also add grey/clear wings and I think the age is between 2.5 months to 3.5 months, because the ceres is still light blue. I think the flying wings are not there, may be because they are cut or something. Couldn't tell if she opaline, but I think she is not an opaline.

Thanks!! Yes, the breeder clipped the flight wings so that’s how she came to us. Taking advantage while we can for bonding in the meantime.

She is not grey or clearwing and is definitely not 2.5-3.5 months. If the pet store was correct in their initial guess she is at least 4 months old, but I suspect 5-6. She is also not an opaline.

Her wing markings are a bit dark for dilute but I'm waiting to see if it's just baby melanin or if she's potentially a slightly different mutation.
