Hi everyone,

I'm new to the budgies' world with very little knowledge, and I would be grateful if you could help me figure out what is the gender of my birds. For the blue one I believe it's male but I'm really confused about the green budgie.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forums,

Your budgies are beautiful. They both appear to be male; is there any way you could post a photo of the green one's cere with more natural light? Because it is in shadow I can't confirm the true color. Females have pale, whitish bluish, white, or beige ceres which turn brown when they are in condition. Males have shiny pink ceres with no white which turn blue when they are adult, or may not turn blue depending on their mutation.

Meanwhile, it's great to have you on the forums, and you've come to the best place to learn even more about the best of budgie care practices. If you have any questions after reading through the forums' many budgie articles and 'stickies" please be sure to ask as we'd love to help.

Hope to see you around and see updated photos soon!

Cheers :)

Hi StarlingWings,

Really appreciate your interest and thanks for the details you've provided, I'm very happy to be on this forum as well. I've attached two more photos under natural light conditions for you to have a better look, I hope they are clear enough to determine the gender, otherwise please let me know to send you more photos/details.

Many thanks!!

It's EXCELLENT that you have two males! Having a mixed gender pair would mean having to do everything possible to discourage breeding.
Domesticated Budgies are much healthier and happier when they are never bred.

Your little boys are very cute. What have you named them?
