Hello! My lovebird is sick.. She has been coughing since yesterday. :( Hope someone can give me advice on first aid treatment? Though she's sick, I've managed to make her eat bird food. But she's weak. I plan to go to a vet but there's a typhoon here in MAnila. Hope you can help me. Thank you very much!

Keep her warm and quiet and give her a millet spray soaked in electrolyte solution.

If you don't have electrolyte in your Birdy First Aid Kit and do not have Pedialyte on hand, you can make some using this recipe:

½ cup hot water
3 ½ cups water
2 Tablespoons honey (or sugar if you have no honey)
½ teaspoon salt
Optional: 2 Tablespoons Orange or Apple Juice

Mix the honey and salt with the hot water until dissolved
Add the room temperature water and juice and let cool to room temperature before using.

Sending lots of healing energy, positive thoughts and prayers for your little one. I hope she will be OK.
Please give us an update after you have her in to see her Avian Vet.

Welcome to talk budgies, sorry to hear your bird is ill. Deb has given you some good advice, and hopefully you can get to the vet soon. Prayers for your safety during the typhoon. If she shows any respiratory distress, run hot water in the bathroom to get it steamed up in there and take her cage in. Even better would be a sheet tented over the cage, and a warm mist humidifier or vaporizer underneath. A few drops of Eucalyptus oil in the humidifier will be a big help too. Keep us posted...

Welcome to the forums!

I'm sorry to hear your little one is feeling poorly. It must be scary knowing that there's no way to get her to a vet! Deb has given excellent advice, please keep us posted! Many of our members have lovebirds and we all love them anyways, so feel free to share pictures :D

Hope your lovie feels better soon, let us know how she progresses. It's great to have you with us and please ask about anything you're unsure of! :welcome:
