Hi everyone! I took some pictures of Nancy's new rescued budgie yesterday and I thought I would share them with you.

He is such a bright green, and very pretty. I am hoping someone can tell us his mutation and if possible how old you think he is. We are thinking he is still young even though he doesn't have any baby bars. Also, he is very tiny but looks healthy. Vet appointment is coming up so we will know how much he really weighs and his overall health.

He is still very skittish and will turn his back when approached. Finally saw him actually eating. Nancy was worried that he doesn't eat because she doesn't have to change his food often and she is only giving him a little to help monitor how much he is eating but he ate quite a bit yesterday. But only eats the seed, and not anything else. Still new so we want to make sure he is eating something for now.

Do you see that yellow spot on his head? What is that, I have never seen a "spot" on a birds head like that before. At first I thought it was missing or ruffled feathers but the more I looked the more I realize it is just a spot, there are no missing feathers.

Also, any name suggestions? Nancy is thinking Charlie, Henry, or Oliver...he doesn't look anything like those names to me! I was thinking Rio because of his bright colors but ideas are welcome. It took us almost 3 months to come up with our last birds name Misty.

Thank you everyone for looking and helping with his mutation and everything else.

Lisa

Uh oh...gotta check if this picture posting thing is working again. Had so much trouble trying to post pics of George and I guess I forgot how. If this works I will post the other pics I have.

What a cutie, congrats!

My little budgie has a white spot on her head that looks just like that. She's already been through one molt with us and it is still there.

He's very handsome and I'm sure he's going to be happy that your family is going to love and care for him!

I like his little yellow spot! Sunny has several and I think they are adorable :giggle:

The first two names that popped into my head were Alwyn (wise one) and Gwaine (battle hawk). I also like Brodie. ;)

You have a very beautiful Normal Green Male. :)

Kyle is right about the age.

Don't worry about the spot on the head. These spots are there from small ones to real big ones.

How about "Sparky".

Thank you everyone for the comments, mutation, and name suggestions! All very good ones! I think that spot is cute too, just haven't seen one before...makes me want to rub his head and "fix" it! lol

Although there is no way to touch him right now, he won't let you! :)

His green is so bright it reminds me of tropical islands and the vibrant green trees...or a green slushy or Popsicle! :D

Hopefully we can train him to like our hands and come to us instead of being afraid. Of course we want him to have out of cage time but he won't move from his mirror. Which we won't leave in there while training, but right now it is there to make him feel more comfortable!

What a gorgeous boy. I think Pop (short for popsicle as you said) is a cute name :D some people associate this with grandad though i suppose :p

He is a charmer with green so vibrant and healthy looking. I think the small spot on his head is the cutest one like a birth mark. This spins off a name like Birmark.

Congrats on getting him, Lisa.

Those are some great names, I will suggest them to Nancy. And Roland you are right, it is like a little birthmark! I just want to kiss it...hopefully soon! lol

I did find the person who rescued him. The man said he found this budgie outside foraging for grass seed on the ground. He said the budgie was easy to catch and came right to him. I am thinking the humane society might have really frightened him and that is why he is so skittish. Plus the way they were trying to catch him was really frightening. I hope we can change that because the way he is now I do not think he would be easy to catch. But we have plenty of time to tame him, slow and easy is the key! I wonder if he will learn to talk. All of our budgies have been talkers. He still doesn't eat very much, but he is eating and that is good.

He is still nameless, but we will find the right name for him.

Naming is important, definitely take your time with that :)
I think he is very lucky you took him home  i am sure with some TLC he will come around eventually :) especially if he came to the man's hand when he was first found, surely he was tame in his first home :)

A normal budgie who is split for pied, sometime will have a spot on the back of head. But you can only be sure if you breed him. :)

Yep, naming a budgie is very important especially if you want them to say it. lol It should be a name that fits him first and then easy to say for the budgie...at lest that is what I think! lol

And no...no breeding in our future so I guess we will never know for sure! :)
