October - Flight month

Right it has gotten far to quiet here. I haven't seen any new flight pics for over a month.

And is October!

Soon the skies will be filled with ghosts, ghouls, goblins and witches.

Let your budgies join the fun.

Let them fly!

Then grab your camera and capture the moment and post it for all of us to admire!

If you want a real halloween effect, keep the slower shutter setting to create a blurred, ghost-like image :)

Can't wait to be haunted by these images! :laughing2:
Looking forward to trying to get some flight photo's indi we will see how i go.
Ohhh how I wish I could get flight photos.....I have had so many cameras, and it has cost me a lot, in the persuit of a flight picture :p but alas.....no luck :( they are all blurred far too much, even with supposedly good cameras! and this is if I even manage to catch one of mine at the right time, they are sooooooo fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Usually they have landed way before I can press the button on the camera, never mind waiting the half second or so for the camera to take the picture haha, oh well, maybe one day :p I will just have to enjoy every one elses pictures :D
It is on my "to do" list Li.....:)

No excuses, blurred pics become ghostly apparitions caught on film :D

I hope your "to do" list doesn't look like my "to do" list :laughing1:
Haha Li.....it's blurred so badly you can't even make out there is a budgie in the picture :p it's bad really!!!

I'm thinking about moving just so I can get some flight pics LOL Our apartment is way to small!
I have a blurry pic I will post later though :)
Wow Si, those ghostly images are very cool!

I especially like the 2nd pic. Is the your budgie doing a headless horseman impersonation? It is good to see Duke getting in on the act too. Other birds are more than welcome here :D

Oh, and I love the sig pic. Absolutely gorgeous :laughing1:

I look forward to seeing your ghost pic :)

A small place does have it's bonuses. Less room means more opportunity that your little one will fly into the photo zone. This is the spot that you are staking out with your camera all set and ready to take the pics. If you can have it on multiple shot and watch Pinko rather than the camera. When Pinko appears to be about to fly into the photo zone start shooting. With luck you will get some flying pics, and a couple of these should be nice and clear if you have the shutter speed correct.

Good luck :D
How do you manage to find a camera with a fast shutter speed! All mine take upto two seconds to actually take the picture, I have spent out so much on cameras just to get flight pics and none were any good so I sold them on again. If I got a picture as good as the most blurry one on this thread I would think I had hit the jackpot!! Any pictures I have managed to get there is no way anybody can tell theres a bird in the picture!!

I can't believe how many people manage to get flight pictures! What cameras are you using? I have a nikon coolpix now and I can't even get a half clear picture of something that is totally still now it's that rubbish!!

I know the feeling. My previous camera couldn't take a flight shot to save itself so when I purchased my next one I made sure it was capable. To be fair I also had advice from a friend who is a photographer. Unfair advantage I know :)

Pretty much all you need for a flight shot is a camera that allows for fast shutter speed. If your current camera has a sport setting this may work at getting a less blurry image.

The only way to get around the slow shot take is with lots of practice. I have come to realise that as soon as I can see my birds in the corner of my eye I have to push the button. Still lots of empty room pics.

Lastly if the camera has a continuous shot setting this will help too. Really simple, the more pics you can take the more likely you will get the bird in one of them :)

I have started a "What camera do you use"? thread. Hopefully others will post here and this info may help should you decide to get another camera :D
Can you post your bad flight photo's here
Can you post your bad flight photo's here
If you have a blurred image that makes your budgie take on a ghostly appearance then yes. Otherwise you could start a new thread for bad pics. I believe that some of the bad pics actually look quite neat, they just aren't what we were trying to achieve.
Lyn that looks like my camera! Different make but same shape :p

I'm going to have to look in the settings on the camera more, at long distance 14m+ it takes such clear pictures of things even the eye can't see, got some great pictures of wood pigeons flying and eating berries, and a squirrel sat in a huge tree, also some seagulls and crows, a magpie, but no budgies!!

Thanks for starting the camera thread, I'm such a techno-phobe, I mean, some technology just gives up the ghost as soon as it see's me, I had a microwave just stop working when I walked up to it, a computer that gave me the blue screen of death every time I touched it, but no one else got an error who used it, I've had four tvs in one year, they all randomly break, i'm a disaster hahahaha, but I will keep trying for that elusive flight photo! Also i'm going to stop hijacking your thread around about.......now :p
this is not my thread so go ahead and post here... I posted a photo in the thread that has what type of camera do you have have a look.
I have a very cheap point and shoot camera. There is no skills involved on my part :embarrassed:. All I did with my camera setting is I set it to auto, then I just point and shoot and hope for the best :giggle:. Out of 10 flight shots I always get 4 or 5 that are okay ;). If I can take flight shots with my cheap compact camera then surely everyone here should be able to :D.
Well done Si. Unfortunately some camera's do not have a fast enough shutter speed to get a clear picture. It really does depend on the camera, but it does go to show that you don't have to buy something expensive to get a flight pic. If you haven't already, please do post your camera details over in the '*************' thread. :)

And don't worry about hijacking the thread, I will just create a new one for the posting of pics :D
