Paint

My kitchen ceiling was flooded over the weekend from my upstairs neighbor. They had to come take out my ceiling then replace texture and paint.
Luckily my son lives nearby so I was able to take Sweety to his place.

They should be done painting tomorrow. After that how long before it’s safe to bring Sweety home? I have an open studio apartment so there’s no where at my place I could put him that would keep the toxins away from him.

No clue the kind of paint but I’m going to guess they will go with whatever is cheapest versus having any consideration for the tenants.

I will try to air it out all weekend during the day (I can stay elsewhere so won’t matter if it’s cold) and then I’ll assess again on Monday. That would be at least 4 days.

But if I can still smell it on Monday yes it’s ok to keep him at my son”s longer. He just doesn’t get much attention there but it’s better than the possible danger of fumes at my place.

I convinced the apt managers to NOT paint at all for now. They replaced the drywall and textured it. They were going to come back to paint but I told them it's a hardship for me and I'll let them know when it's ok. My plan is to just never bring it up again and not have it painted at all, as they will likely forget that it still needs to be done. It looks fine and should be fine without paint, it's all white anyway whether painted or not.

They put on the texture on Wednesday (Sweety was at my son's already). I couldn't find anything about danger of off gassing of texture online. It is all dry now and I can't smell it anymore so I'm hoping it's safe and plan to bring him home tonight.

He has had a very hard time at my son's house (5 days now) and I just have to get him out of there. I couldn't put him through another 6 days of being away from home after they paint.

Phew! My heart can rest again. Sweety is home now and 90% back to normal. He was suffering from boredom and lack of any flock attention at my son’s. He works full time and even though we both went to see Sweety on our lunches, the bummer is that son’s internet is out so we could not even play music or anything for him.

Seeety is used to having RuPaul playing in the background when I’m not there. And I can watch him on my birdcam all day. He dances and flits about and plays with toys all day long while RuPaul is on.

But if absolutely nothing is playing, he gets completely still and won’t do anything and just overall is bummed out.

So that’s how he’s been at my son’s all week when we weren’t there. I’d see him at lunch and then visit after work and he had not moved at all. Poor guy. I think he would have been fine at my son’s if only I could have played his show or even play anything.

I had one movie downloaded on a tablet I could play for him but it would only be an hour and a half but he might be alone with no sounds for 4 hours.

In the meantime I had talked to my daughter who would love to bird sit and she was prepared to take him for 6 days if they insisted on painting. Her place is farther away but it’s good to know she’s ready and happy to do it.
