HI. Everyone!!! Today i had to help assist with a bus outing at the Nursing Home we took the Residents out on a morning tea to the Botanical gardens.. They had a great time having tea cake etc and then they fed the birds. There were Pelicans duck and all sorts of birds but the unusal thing we saw in the water was these Eels they were huge like carpet snakes.. The house came out by boat from England and they put it at the Botanical Gardens as this was the house that Bert Hinkler lived in he was a famous Plane flyer well known..Then out came the water Dragon and we were feeding it and then he nearly came towards me to run up my leg and one of the residents pocked me on the back and i jumped 10 feet in the air and they all laughed they thought it was funny big scare for the day..Anyway hear are some photo's of the Wild life.. The residents didn't want there photo taken which is fine they got so much fun feeding them..

Glad that you liked the photo's from my outing today..There were a lot of birds there but couldn't take all of the photos as they were to quick like the kookaburra high up in the trees Parrots etc. We all had a good time this morning.

Great pictures Lyn. I like Ducks and Pelicans. We sometimes get Pelicans on one of the big dams around here. And Hinkler House is really beautiful.

Thank you Kate. The Pelicans are one of my favorite birds remember the story called Storm Boy I saw where it was made in South Australia at the coorong.. I loved that movie.. The other building is the Museum shaped into a plane.. Glad you liked the photo's.

Thank you Aluz. Do you know the Movie Storm Boy well it was about a boy and his three friends the pelicans it was filmed in South Australia I loved that movie I think I'll get it out again and watch it.. Glad you liked the photos.

Pelicans

About 40 years ago+- the US had to ban the use of DDT on crops because it was killing wild life and making the brown pelicans and eagles egg shells too thin to raise new babies. I participated at a sanctuary that was rehabbing , banding, medicating, deworming, and setting free.recovered pelicans and any young that were hatched from handicapped pelican pairs at the sanctuary.

The brown pelicans live mostly around the southern part of the US while the white pelicans seem to live in the northern areas into Canada. Some times Birds would be blown south during hurricanes. Then we would have a lot of
unusual birds from other areas with injures and simple exhaustion.

One pelican had a partial pouch replacement so it could catch fish on it own.
Now there are plenty of pelicans, and eagle nests. those eels are huge.

I love your wildlife photos Lyn. You do some very interesting stuff! The eels are fascinating -- and those pelicans are huge compared to the ducks! I like this thread - have never heard of the movie Storm Boy, but will look it up and see if it's available in the States.

I live 1/2 blk from the Little Arkansas river and watch bald eagles fly down it to their nesting grounds every spring. They nest about 4 miles from me. It's always a thrill to see them -- so huge.

Thank you Wendy. I didn't no that you could keep eels as a pet that is interesting you would have to have a big tank for it they grow huge. So happy you liked my photos.

The Pelicans are an Australian Bird I hope you can see Storm Boy.. I'll see of it is still available in the stores here if I can get it I'll send it to you..
