He’s bleeding and we don’t know how to stop it
We put corn starch when it started (less blood ) and took him to the vet but she said nothing is wrong with his foot and that he’s fine 😖
Didn’t even give him medicine or ointment
We live in Saudi Arabia (no avian vets) and birds are on the bottom of their priority list
This is happening now the bleeding and we’re worried because they don’t have much blood to begin with
He has a liver issue and on (Milk thistle + apple cider vinegar)
He’s been holding his foot up for days but was getting better then the bleeding started last night (vet) we thought he’s biting himself but we’re not sure what’s going on
He’s in a small cage alone to calm down
He has his separate cage in general (we let them out a couple of hours a day) but when he got sick (raised foot) we kept him in his cage to relax from his nagging annoying kinda of a bully (no violence) brother

You are correct that even a small amount of blood loss is not good. Can you determine exactly where on the foot the bleeding is coming from? Trying to access if he was bitten or if perhaps he has a condition known as bumblefoot if he is being bullied it would be best to keep him separated permanently Line the bottom of his cage with paper towels in case he would feel more comfortable sitting on a more solid surface so he does not have to curl his feet around a perch. Here are a couple of videos by an avian vet on first aid that you might find helpful you also could try contacting an online vet for advice

Please make sure you keep him separate for now. His nails look a bit long and in need of a trim, after he is feeling better you may want to trim them if you are comfortable doing that, just make sure you do not cut too much to cause bleeding. How was his liver issue diagnosed? Birds with liver issues can have problems with excessive bleeding as the impairment of liver function can interfere with blood clotting properly.

I joined a budgie forum years ago (just found this one today) and there are a few very experienced
People who have been dealing with birds for years diagnosed him for us, long bruised beak (we trim his beak regularly) and long bruised nails, and the MT seemed to help him.
So you’re saying that this bleeding incident could be from his liver issue? How can we help him ? He’s eating now and thankfully the bleeding has stopped
This is a recent pic

They were correct, bruises on beaks and nails is a sign of liver disease and you will sometimes see the beak and nails grow very fast, I have been through that same thing with several birds. No, I am not saying that the liver issue caused the bleeding, I am saying that because of the liver issue the bleeding may be harder to stop because it does not clot normally. What does he eat, if he is on an all seed diet this can lead to vitamin deficiencies, here is a safe food list you may want to try offering him some items on the list. Safe Foods for Budgies

He eats vegetables on a daily basis but mainly he loves carrots the most and I was shocked to see that on the list it says to eat dill in moderation they eat a lot of dill almost every day (I remember reading that it’s good for liver health) also they love it, how many times a week is it safe?
we got him beetroot for his blood loss

Thank you for explaining the liver and bleeding issue now I understand

he’s eating and acting better in general
Thank you very much for your reply and help
Will keep you posted

I searched for dill but couldn’t get a clear answer
So can I give them dill daily ? Is it safe?
Especially my other bird he loves it so much he goes crazy for it (he eats the stems mainly) rarely eats the herb itself

The oils in some herbs can be irritating to the GI tract, I think that is probably why there is a warning, but if he has not has any issues with it he may not be ingesting enough of it to cause any problems.

Without an avian vet or a vet that has experience treating birds I don't think there is much you can do except keep the foot clean and stop the bleeding. It is very possible that it has neurological involvement, there must be something causing irritation in the foot/leg area and his response is to bite the area. If there are any zoos in your area they should have a vet that threats the animals in the zoo, perhaps you could contact the zoo and find out who the Dr. is that treats the animals there and contact him/her to see if they have experience with birds or can refer you somewhere. If you can find this product anywhere it is good for stopping bleeding https://www.amazon.com/Kwik-Stop-Styptic-Powder-1-5-Ounce/dp/B00063KN94?th=1

So the update is that we started giving him (vitamin B complex) and thankfully he hasn’t bled or bit his foot for 2 days now and seems much calmer than before
Let’s hope this continues and he would get even better
We’re grateful for your help and just wanted to share the good news
This gif was taken today and what’s on his beak is from eating beetroot not blood 😁 we’re giving him beetroot daily since he started bleeding and he’s eating it and likes it
Thanks again ❤🐥

Glad he is better, he is an unusual looking bird in that he has kept the stripes on his head as an adult, how old is he and what's his name?
His name is Fido and is almost 5 years old
He had a normal white head for years but when he started getting sick (mainly liver) he started getting his bars back again
They sometimes go away but with some molts they come back
Don’t know the reason though
We tried to find out for a while with no use

Dr. Samer
I will make an appointment
The general vet he took him to (before we found this one) gave him this ointment he said this won’t heal his finger but it will just prevent infection and this is how his foot looked like after applying the ointment (black)
