This was a post I did last year. Thought I would get the recipe over to the recipe group section. It is by far the best pumpkin pie I ever made. The crystallized ginger on top puts in in its own class :).

Crust
8oz gingersnaps
2Tbls sugar
1/2tsp Ground ginger
4Tbls melted butter
pinch salt

put all in food processor and grind until fine
Press in pie plate - bake 10 mins 350 degrees

filling
15oz pumpkin puree
1 cup sour cream
1 cup sugar
1-1/2tsp cinnamon
1tsp Ground ginger
1/2tsp nutmeg
1/4tsp ground cloves
3 eggs beaten
1tsp vanilla

Beat all together until smooth
pour in shell
bake 350 degrees for 45 - 50 mins...until set

topping
1- 1/2 cups whipping cream
3/4 cup powder sugar
1/2 cup sour cream

beat cream and sugar to stiff peaks add in sour cream.

Sprinkle crystallized ginger on top and serve.

And loosen your pants :D

Recipe is from Cuisine at home. and a whopping 593 calories per serving. But the taste is incredible. So eat a piece and go run a marathon

Nice. You will not be disappointed :). I thought the crystallized ginger may be too spicy for the grandkids but surprise, they loved it too.

Master 2 loves crystallized ginger and the pickled ginger you get with the sushi too. I might have to try this recipe, though I have never understood the fascination Americans have with Pumpkin Pie ... now if it was Apple Pie ... :D

The problem with trying recipes like this now that we're living in Australia, is finding the right type of pumpkin puree. You can't buy it canned and you can't make it cuz the ones they grow here aren't the same and I think they'd make the pie taste funny!! The only way to get real pumpkin pie is at Costco where it's the same exact pie they sell in American Costco's. It's good enough to make my husband happy and not so homesick though.

Alie you can get the tinned pumpkin from Myers Gourmet section too, we have bought it and it worked perfectly.:D
Hmm, the Myer near us closed down last year, I think there might be one left on the other side of town, not sure if it has a Gourmet section though, I'll go look next time I'm there. Thanks for the suggestion Cathy :) I'd be stoked if I could find a way to make a good pumpkin pie.

Classic American pumpkin pie is usually made out of Sugar pumpkins which sort of look like the type used for carving but they aren't the same, they're darker and smaller. I've never seen them sold anywhere here and I've never seen canned pumpkin puree either :(

You just want to make sure it is pumpkin puree not pumpkin pie mix. The mix has spices and additives added.

I am not condoning smuggling but in the old days Immigrants used to sew seeds into their hems of their clothes :).

I bet your recipe is awesome! I've never tried making an american recipe for pumpkin pie! :) We grow pumpkins here in Greece, and we make pumpkin pie with fyllo or with apple pie's crust.

Most excellent. I think I have found a solution. It seems we do grow the right kind of pumpkins here but they are officially called Kurijiman Ebisu. It looks like one of our major supermarket chains may also stock, probably be in the big city stores though, so it may have to be added to my big city shopping list

Those naughty immigrants! I wouldn't want my FIL to end up in jail for being a pumpkin seed mule, not that I like him particularly but it's just so untidy
