Hi! I'm new here and have no idea how to work this forum, haha
I'm also a new budgie owner.
We have a nice giant purple leaf sandcherry tree, and I was wondering if any of you guys have experience with using it to create perches?
The only information I can find online is that it attracts a lot of wild birds. We often see birds perching on our tree, but nothing specifically about domestic birds.
If I "cure" it, should it be safe?
It's hard finding suitable perches where I am!

You can check the "Safe Woods for Budgies" list to see if it's safe for them for perches. It's great that you're wanting to give your budgies the best variety for perches!

If you can't use your own branches, there are lots of resources online with great perch selections. Perches made of manzanita, grapevine or java wood are great, and many sites (including Amazon) sell them.

Meanwhile, you've come to the best place to learn even more about budgies! Be sure to read through the forum's many Budgie Articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subform for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on all the best practices for budgie care.

Cherry trees are toxic to budgies and you should not use the branches as perches.

You can easily order safe wooden perches on-line if you are having problems finding safe wood on the list StarlingWings linked.
There are many options for on-line ordering in Canada.
