Hello, a little budgie flew in to our garden yesterday. 😀 We have taken him into our home and are lookkng after hum. We have bought a cage and food etc. He seems to be eating and drinking but not knowing anything about budgies I'm wondering if he isn't well. He was sitting on his perch for most of the afternoon and evening yesterday and was chirping but today he seems to be standing on the bottom of the cage. He is still chirping and eating and drinking but I am worried. When we found him, he had a chunk of feathers missing on his neck but I spoke to the vet today and she said he could be distressed because of being lost outside in the cold (we have no idea how long he has been outside) and he may have over groomed. She said to give him a couple of days to let him settle but I'm not sure. Can anyone offer some advice please? Xx

Hi, Welcome to Talk Budgies!

The purpose of this forum is to promote the BEST PRACTICES in the care of budgies for their optimal Health and Well-Being

Locating an Avian Veterinarian

Thank you for rescuing the little budgie.
Are you going to try to locate the owner?

Was the vet you contacted an Avian Vet?
It would be best to take the budgie in to an Avian Vet for a checkup.
You need to find out if the budgie is healthy or needs medication.
If there are no Avian vets nest you, find an exotic pet veterinarian who has experience dealing with small birds.
All new budgies should have a wellness check but especially one that has been rescued from outdoors
Is the budgie fluffed up?
Is it eating, drinking, and pooping normally?
Do you know if it is male or female?
With missing feathers, it may have been attacked by another bird or other animal and could need antibiotics.
