Hello everyone, Jax just went through a big molt and I don’t think he’s finished yet but his feathers have been looking a lot more different. He’s a lot quieter now and today I noticed he’s been in and out of a deep sleep, like I was just playing with him and standing outside his cage and he fell asleep and even though I was standing right in front of him and moving around he didn’t open his eyes which he usually does. Is this normal for budgies to be acting so exhausted and almost lethargic?

During a severe molt it is not uncommon for them to be much more quiet, inactive and sleepy, it is also a time when the immune system is more fragile. From the pictures you posted it does not look like the molt is severe unless the worst is over. Is he eating normally and do the droppings look ok? Take look at this article Miserable Molting

He wasn’t eating or drinking for a while but right now as of a few minutes ago he’s eating and took a sip of water. His droppings are small and very dark but I just made an appointment with his vet for tomorrow morning , so i will update with what they say. And Thank you, the article you linked is very informational

Good that you are taking him to the vet, it would be a good idea to place a fresh paper towel under the spot he sleeps, and take it to the vet with you, it may be useful for the vet to see the amount produced and the look of the droppings.
