Should I get my budgie a new friend?

1102 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Budget baby
A little mishap happened on June 4th 2015.
Me and my dad were having a fight.. i dont want to get too into that but he ended up punching the budgie cage damaging the top of it out of anger ( Im so sorry my poor budgies :( )
I didint notice cause i didint think he punched it that hard but what really happened was that the cage top was half open to let a budgie fly through.. my dad opened the door as one of the budgies was examining the top then.. he flew away.. I quickly closed the door so the other one wouldint and went to see what was wrong then later on fixed the cage I went out to see if the other budgie would come back but he ended up not doing so, ever since my only budgie left has been talking to HIMSELF he would talk in 2nd person in a angry tone then a calm tone mostly like the conversations the two brothers had in the morning, my mother suggested that this is the time to tame him then we can get him a friend but I think right now is the time to get him a friend.. so should i wait after i tame him or get him a friend now :S :budgie: but if you are worried about the punching, all it did was scare them but now I wont ever let that happen again.

So sorry to hear this happened, I hope your dad realizes the mistake he made with his anger.

I'm so sorry that one of your little ones flew away! I think that as long as the other budgie is fine and acting normal, he would be fine without a friend. However, since he is used to being with another budgie, you could also get him a friend.

If you get a new budgie, you have to quarantine it in a separate room away from your current budgie for 5-6 weeks, which gives you time to work on taming your current budgie!

Hope this helps, let us know what you decide :)

Sorry to hear your bird got away. I agree with Starling, you could get another bird and work with taming both during quarantine time...:)

I am sorry to hear your budgie escaped, he might still come back keep checking you never know.
The remaining budgie will be missing his friend but as the others have said you definitely need to quarantine a new bird coming into your home.
I would suggest having a talk regarding your budgies welfare to your Dad , explaining the situation and how budgies can and have died from fright.
