I was really hoping to not post a thread like this again.

I came home from school today and grabbed one of my budgies and all of a sudden, he threw up seeds. His head bobbed up and down and the seeds were partially digested. There wasn't any slimy content to the seeds, they were just moist. And it wasn't a violent vomiting motion. His head just went up and down a few times and a few seeds came out. Not too much.

He didn't throw up a lot. It lasted maybe a few seconds, but afterwards he got fluffy and then had diarrhea. I couldn't make out what the diarrhea looked like because he was on our tree, I just noticed he pooped liquid. He's also stopped singing and isn't moving around too much either. I know budgies are really good at hiding their illnesses, but honestly he gave no signs at all. He was singing earlier this morning and jumping around and all that.

Now I'm concerned. This is totally new for him. We've had him for a while along with his friends and we always keep them inside, on the same diet so I have no idea what's going on. Because I'm a student and my parents are stubborn and thinking he's fine, I can't take him to the vet. I'm also in the middle of finals. Any ideas on what might be happening? :(

Hi there. :)

When you grabbed your budgie, was it in a gentle manner? I'm asking this because when budgies have their crops filled with food and they are grabbed in more of a firm manner and there is pressure on the crop area, they can in fact react by throwing up seeds as a direct consequence.

If your budgie is in fact feeling under the weather (constantly fluffed up, there's a decrease in energy/singing, decrease in food intake), you notice his droppings aren't normal and the vomiting continues, then the best course of action is to book him an appointment at the avian vet.
I'm aware the timing may not be the best since you are studying for finals, but your budgie's health and well being is important too and he should be closely monitored.

Considering what happened to your Jupiter, you should have found a way to save up some money for vet emergencies. When we take home a pet we must do whatever it takes to ensure they remain happy and healthy.
When our pets need professional medical attention due to an injury or ill health, it is our job and responsibility to seek professional advice and in this case the services of a specialized avian vet.

I hope your budgie feels better soon.

I gave him my finger and he got on so that's what I meant by grabbing him. I have money saved now for emergencies, I was just freaking out because the timing couldn't be worse! But he is a lot better!! He's back to singing and no longer fluffy! Thank you for your help!

I'm glad to hear that he seems better, and that you have funds available in case he needs a vet trip. Keep a close eye
on his behavior, appetite, and droppings...:)
