Hello,

My male budgie's name is Olive, he is two years and 10 month old, he is eating well, is always hungry, has no symptoms except a vision problem.

The heart rate of my male budgie seems to be way slower, more irregular than my female budgie's. (The irregularity might be the fact that he calm down real fast) I know that the male trust me way more than the female ( she is pretty much wild and constantly think i am going to eat her, even though she knows i won't).
I am not sure but i don't think to recall the male having this slow of an heart rate, under 200, like 175? per minute, i do not have any precise way of measuring, just listening.

There are no sound example of budgies heart rate on the internet (apart a YouTube video without any sound/ number). Some says it's 274 BPM at rest/sleep, the latter seems hard to believe. I guess most budgies do not trust their owner completely, let alone a stranger with a foreign (measuring) object in it's hand.

I plan to create a more detailed post in "illnesses and diseases" category with pictures and all, but for now I just would like to know how slow the heart rate of your most trustful and most relaxed budgie is compared to the others?

If you wish you can answer now without reading the rest.

......

He is currently under Meloxicam since last Saturday (i went to two specialized veterinarian for his vision trouble since last week.) His right eyes seems to detect movement from far away only, his left eye can see a little bit up close. He cannot see well and/or control his eyes well, the vets do not know the cause, one said it might be neurological..) He has no other symptoms except the vision problem. He previously had a sort of conjunctivitis in January, but it was apparently not a bacterial one, it lasted 2/3 day, i didn't know what to do, but as soon as i got the veterinarian advice to rinse, i rinsed with pure saline water adapted to babies, the eye cleared the next morning. The vets says "there are no damage in the membrane of the eye, so no conjunctivitis" ?

Two days ago i remembered I myself had a fungi infection (not on my hands) that i treated in December/January, even though I did my best to always wash my hands before touching my birds, i may have forgotten once or twice. Can humans transmit fungi to budgies? Can it affect the vision only, without affecting any other organs?? I also know that i play with the male much more (as i said the female is savage)

Yesterday i panicked and thought he was starting to have what he had previously in January but this time on his left eye which still has little vision, i used baby pure saline water, but because i didn't want to let it go like i did in January i contacted the specialist to say " we must give to him what he need so he can fight what he has". I think i panicked way too much because he didn't have anything bad on his eye, both of my budgies were just slightly moulting.
The vets replied to my panic mail and said " i unfortunately do not think he has a fungi/bacterial problem, but here is the prescription that can comfort you, Voriconazol and bayrtril for 2 week"

But he still hasn't answered the question about the fungi infection transmission and about the new prescription that is " should I stop Meloxicam before starting Voriconazol and Bayrtril?" because thats 3 liquid medecin twice a day for 15 days, for a budgie that weighs 40 gram.

Thanks for anyone willing to read and share insights.

Budgies can have heart problems just like people, the vet is the best person to determine if your bird has a heart problem, the meloxicam is an anti inflammatory and pain reliver , I would not stop it, it will not effect the other medications. In people, some fungal infections can be passed from person to person, I don't know if you could have passed it to your bird, it may depend on what type of infection you had.

Thank you for your answer Cody. The vets have not answered yet, it's been over 24 hours. I indeed continue to give Meloxicam but did not start the other two. Because the vet repeated that he do not think he has any fungal or bacterial infection, but were willing to give the prescription to "comfort me" when i freaked about his left eye loosing 3/4 very little feather, but it turns out both of my budgies are moulting, they first lose their tiniest and then their fluffiest feathers.

I just want to hear from budgies owners how slow the heart rate of their most relaxed budgie is compared to their wildest one.
