You should not try to self-medicate your budgie without discussing the illness and possible treatment with an Avian Veterinarian.

Members of this forum are not professionals and cannot advise you with regard to medical treatment for your budgies.

Merck Veterinary Manual

Avian Vets have special training to determine the cause of symptoms resulting from illness or trauma.
This is important as "regular" vets will often overlook symptoms that are quickly obvious to an Avian Vet.
When you rely on anyone who has not had training in Avian diagnosis and care, you may be delaying effective treatment.
This can prolong suffering that may be avoidable.
The bird will often require a more intense, prolonged treatment with a poorer chance of full recovery than it would have if you seek prompt professional diagnosis and treatment at the first sign of illness.
If there are no Avian Vets near you, please find an Exotic Pet Veterinarian with experience in dealing with small birds.

My budgie has developed a nasty respiratory infection and he won't eat seeds. I'm quite worried that he'll die of hunger and I was wondering what soft food could I prepare him that he'd like to eat? Also, what can I do to raise his chances of survival? I have started giving him antibiotics today but he's very sleepy and weak.
If he is that ill it would be best if he was hospitalized, do you have an avian vet?

No, it's quite far away from me sadly, I contacted a vet online and he told be that to treat my budgie's condition I should give him antibiotics.
It might be worth just making a trip to the vets just to make sure everything is okay

How about giving fruits or veg mashed up? I'm just thinking out loud

I'm combining your two threads regarding your bird's respiratory infection.
Did you start giving your budgie the Doxycycline?

Yes, I'm giving him doxycycline.

Did you start giving your budgie the Doxycycline?
Yes, at a dosage of 200mg/L in his water supply.
If this is the same product you have the dosage should be on the bottle Doxycycline 20%, however, you need to make sure the bird is ingesting enough to be effective, have you seen the bird drinking?

It's not the same product. I've seen him drink water. Also, he is better than yesterday is it because the Doxycycline has started working?
it can take a week or so for antibiotics to help alleviate infection. How long have you had him on the doxycycline?

Since yesterday.
It’s doubtful the medicine has worked that quickly. Just like people, when an animal is I’ll some days are better than others.

Hopefully he will continue to improve.
