I imagine our new budgie isn’t a true Rainbow but rather a Opaline, Yellowfaced, Spangle. Just a guess. My question is how do you tell the difference between the Clearwing and Spangle? Thanks for your help.
He is beautiful. You’re correct, but he’s not a true rainbow due to two things, the fact that he’s greywing instead of clearwing or fullbody clearwing, and the fact that he’s spangle.
He’s actually not opaline, his mutation appears to be spangle, greywing, sky blue yellowface II. Spangle has only a thin outline pattern on each wing feather while clearwing budgies do have very faint normal markings, however, in rainbow budgies which must also be opaline then it can be harder to tell. However, the opaline clearwing budgie will still have very faded but admittedly “normal” opaline markings, if that makes sense.
