1206 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  FaeryBee
Hi. This is Sparkie and joined our nest this Christmas. I'm not sure of the sex but Sparkle was a baby when my daughter purchased him/her for me for Christmas and I believe is a Pied Budgie?

Very cute, I love the yawning picture, looks like a male, the cere looks very pink is that the case in person? Nice coloring too, does that blue/gray color appear anywhere else other than the lower belly, can you post a picture from the back?
I received my budgie as a Christmas gift from my daughter. I'm uncertain as to how old or what sex. Thanks.

The red on the tip of the tail is maybe from the colored cuttlebone?
Hi there and welcome to the forums~

Congrats on little Sparkie, he's adorable and is definitely a little male. You are correct, he's a pied budgie, specifically a recessive pied mauve single factor goldenface, and he's so cute! Because recessive pied budgies keep their immature cere color (bright pink) their whole life, his cere will not turn blue as it does in other males.

Meanwhile, you've come to a great place to learn even more about the best of budgie care practices. Please be sure to read through the forums' many budgie articles and "stickies" to ensure you're up to date on everything! If you have any questions after doing so, feel free to ask as we'd love to help.

We hope to see more of Sparkie soon :D
