I just adopted a budgie this morning. I'm almost positive this little boy is a normal, sky blue, yellow face type two/split for recessive pied. He has a large spot on the back of his head. When I clipped his wings two to four of his fight feathers where clear and the two after that looked dusty like recessive pied markings. He also has some clear patches on his back and wings. I would think he was a recessive pied but he has iris rings. So what do you think?

I do not believe the myth of being able to tell when a budgie is split to recessive pied

your describing a Dominant Pied budgie They do not have to have a clear band across the belly Or it's a clear flight pied

here's one of my youngest ones No clear band at all but she is Dominant pied (been told on here by the experts - because I thought she was clear flight pied even though both parents are dominant pied - But with her belly being all 1 color and no breakages my brain automatically went to clear flight pied)

and to compare- This one is a clear flight pied! 2 different sets of parents

remember on here Pictures speak louder than words ;)
