Too tempting

Since I have had 4 birds die within the last year I have convinced myself it's time for adding to the flock. I went to the bird shelter, it's sad, they have so many birds, and saw two that they say came in as a bonded couple and will only adopt out that way. They are really sweet, I may have to go back and get them. Then as if that wasn't bad enough on my way home I stopped at a major pet store chain to pick up some stuff for my cats and of course I had to look at the birds and there she was, a pretty little mauve sf yellowface, BUT she looked very young did not look too well, she was very quiet on the perch, sleepy and slightly puffed, of course that makes me want to get her out of there and to the vet. I did not buy her but this is one that is going to continue to haunt me.

I know the feeling, I want to buy a bunch just to get them medical attention. But it's good you held out, that's the last thing you would need is to bring home an unknown illness and possibly infect your other birds. Good for you!

I think getting the two little budgies from the shelter is a wonderful idea.

I know you'll give them a safe and loving forever home.

With regard to the big-box pet stores... my advice would be to stay out of them.
There is no way to rescue everybudgie and each time the pet stores sell one it benefits the birdie-mills. :(

I agree 100% with Deb. Plus if it was Petsmart, definitely stay away, because they have had recall after recall. It doesn't seem like they have very much good times for their birds.

I agree with all the excellent advice. I especially like the idea of adopting the pair from the shelter. As far as I'm aware, we don't have such shelters here(although adopted, mine came directly via people...etc...)...we have dog / cat shelters here, but how great there are birdie ones where you are. And how even more great it will be for the birdies if you adopt from there.:)):)Good luck, and keep us posted.x

I will probably go back to the shelter. I have adopted from them in the past and if I adopt from there then that opens up space for them to take in more.
